The Madras High Court on Monday has allowed to terminate a sick elephant of Arulmigu Sugavaneswarar Temple in Salem.
The court has asked veterinary doctors a certificate stating that the elephant can’t be cured. It is cruel for Rajeswari the temple elephant to force it to endure pain and suffering, the court said.
Seeking a direction to authorities concerned to euthanize Rajeshwari, which has been undergoing lot of pain and suffering., The first bench headed by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee passed the order on a plea moved by S Muralidharan, founder, Indian Centre for Animal Rights and Education (INCARE).
The caretaker of the elephant has said that the elephant has became sick after it was moved by a porcelain.
